Tlamela explained that the victim was robbed at a shopping centre in Vorna Valley by Mothupi. “The victim asked security to assist her in apprehending the perpetrator and, once they had done so, they called the police. When they arrived and searched Mothupi, they found him in possession of the complainant’s cellphone. He was immediately arrested and the cellphone was handed back to the lawful owner,” said Tlamela.

The victim also said that Mothupi had tried to rape her during the robbery, resulting in him being charged with attempted rape. However, in her statement, the victim said Mothupi did not take off his clothes, he only tried to pull up her clothes, as if about to rape her. The suspect was not found guilty of attempted rape, Tlamela added.
