Injured dog taken to Kitty and Puppy Haven

MIDRAND – An injured dog gets treated after its owner brings it to a haven in Midrand.

An injured dog from Tembisa was brought to Kitty and Puppy Haven in Midrand, a pro-life sanctuary that rescues and rehabilitates abused and abandoned animals, by its owner, a young woman, after her dog was hurt by someone in the community.

Kitty and Puppy Haven’s chairperson Candice Shaer said, “The dog, called Bobby, was brought in three weeks ago, the girl who brought him was crying and said someone hurt her dog. The dog’s eye was completely blown up.”

After the dog was treated at the haven and the damaged eye removed, Bobby was much better and ready to go home. She added, “While animal rescue and rehabilitation is a priority, educating people on correct animal care is critical. We aim to make pet owners more responsible and knowledgeable.”

Shaer expressed that the haven’s rescues originate from low-income areas, other welfare organisations that also work in the townships and squatter camps, and veterinary practices or as a result of emergency rescues.

Speaking about donations, Shaer said, “As a public beneficiary company we rely solely on public donations. We can issue tax receipts and 18a certificates for all donations received.”

On 24 September the haven will host an event and have a kissing booth, book sale and more fun activities. Visitors are asked to please donate grass, plants and bin bags.

The young woman, whose name has been withheld, could not be reached for comment.
