City of Joburg Region A cleans up Midrand

MIDRAND – Region A cleans up Midrand, littering is a problem in the area.

The City of Johannesburg Region A, Pikitup, Johannesburg Roads Agency, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, and City Power jointly cleaned up the area near the Midrand Police Station entrance on Oracle Close, Janadel Avenue and Smuts Drive.

City Parks cleared bushes and dry branches and swept up along the streets, the roads agency cleared grass and shrubs from storm water drains and Pikitup collected all the litter cleared on streets and a piece of land that was illegally occupied by vagrants near Carlswald.

Regional director of Region A of the City, Abigail Ndlovu said littering is a problem in some parts of Midrand. She stated, “A few property owners around Oracle Close and Smuts Drive approached the City to look at revitalising the area. We are awaiting a proposal from two property owners so we can partner with them in keeping the area clean.

“It is important to keep our streets clean. The clean-up will hopefully attract investment as the City continues to provide much-needed services. We want to maintain and sustain the area so that the place does not decay.”

She stressed that if anyone sees vagrants littering or setting up shacks on private or City-owned land, they should report them immediately.

Details: Report littering or vagrants on 011 203 3305.
