Two men sentenced to 23 years for robbery

MIDRAND – Midrand police officers are pleased with the sentencing of two robbers.

Two men were sentenced to 23 years in prison for committing a business robbery, and stealing plumbing equipment in President Park on 14 March.

Kabae Petrus (32) and Mthunzi Gladman (39) hit an on-duty security guard with a blunt object over the head and seriously injured him. The guard was then admitted to hospital for three weeks.

Spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Constable Matome Tlamela said a day after the robbery, the suspects fought at their place of residence. A neighbour called the police and when officers arrived at the house, one of the suspects told the police that his friend had committed a business robbery on Kruger Road in Midrand and stole plumbing equipment.

Tlamela said, “Upon investigation, it was established that both accused were involved in the crime. Their house was searched and police recovered four geysers and some plumbing equipment valued at R19 750.”

Midrand Police Station Commander, Brigadier Rienette Pieterse, commended the work of Detective Sergeant Paul Sekhunkhwane Lekganyane for his expertise during the investigation of this case.
