Scholarships available for Grade 6 pupils

JOBURG – The SSP calls for high potential pupils to apply for high school scholarships.

 

Applications for Student Scholarship Programme (SSP) high school scholarships are open until 31 August.

SSP recruits Grade 6 pupils with academic potential and enables them to attend top schools in the country. These pupils are mainly recruited from township schools, often with involvement from community-based centres and local libraries.

A potential candidate for the programme is an academically excellent pupil who demonstrates an ability to lead, is a highly motivated individual, is driven to succeed, demonstrates integrity and professionalism and is committed to impacting their communities positively.

The pupils should also be committed to creating a non-racist, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa.

Pupils who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for SSP high school scholarships:

  • Be in Grade 6 and not be older than 12
  • Achieve an average of 70 percent or more in maths and English
  • Have leadership potential.
  • Must participate in extramural activities
  • Be community service oriented
  • Demonstrate a financial need.

The SSP is a non-profit trust which provides educational opportunities to hundreds of South African pupils from low-income families to attend the best secondary schools in South Africa. Since 2000, SSP has sponsored about 1 000 high potential disadvantaged pupils with scholarships valued at R150-million.
