Turbine Art Fair is for all

JOBURG – Fine art becomes accessible to all at this year's Turbine Art Fair

The Turbine Art Fair is looking to make fine art accessible this year.

It’s that time again for the Turbine Hall, in Newtown, and The Forum Company, along with a host of companies they’ve partnered with, to present the Turbine Art Fair 2016.

The annual show of fine art returns for its fourth consecutive exhibition to promote new work and talent, bring in new audiences to appreciate the art in South Africa and grow the collector base too.

“We want to show emerging artists, young artists and to kind of grow a space for collectors to come and find works that are more affordable,” said curator of the fair, Suzie Copperthwaite.

This year the prices of the art have been capped at R40 000, which means that art lovers and those new to the industry will be able to choose, buy, admire or collect works from more than 50 renowned galleries from across the country.

Bloggers and the media were introduced to the fair by taking an instawalk through the iconic venue, and learned of the highlights that can be expected at the show this year.

One of which is the free daily interactive Talks Programme during which guests will be afforded the chance to engage with artists and great influencers in the art world.

“The other thing that’s incredibly exciting about an art fair like this, is that when you hear a collector’s journey about how their collections built up, they often started buying at a fair like this that has… things that have affordability,” said Susie Goodman Johannesburg general manager of fine art auctioneers Strauss & Co.

During the fair, art lovers and collectors will be able to purchase their pieces not only at the fair, but also through auctions online with Strauss & Co.

Just some of the 50 galleries taking part are David Krut Projects, Intoto Gallery, Kalashnikov Gallery, Styl and PPC Imaginarium, among others.

The fair takes place from 14 to 17 July, so don’t miss out.
