Police officers from Midrand Police Station and Metro police visited Madon Pre-school in Noordwyk, and Nokuphila School in President Park on 13 and 14 June to give talks about crime and safety to the pupils as part of their crime prevention programme.
Nearly 200 children were reached at the schools during the talks.
“The children at both schools were taught anti-bullying tactics, their rights, road safety, alert on strangers, police emergency numbers and the child line numbers,” said Constable Matome Tlamela, head of communications of Midrand Police Station.
She said it was important for all children to know their parents’ names, residential addresses, and their parents’ cellphone numbers, as this would help if ever they were lost and ended up at a police station.
Tlamela said the police always enjoyed interacting with Midrand’s little citizens as they are always receptive to the message of safety. “The talks were an hour long. We also distributed pamphlets for them to take home, and afterwards we played some of their games with them. The children were happy to meet the police and we would love to visit any other school that requests us to do so,” she concluded.
