JOHANNESBURG – Find traditional and new style sushi in the inner-city

It’s time to sushi in the city.

With sushi taking over the foodie scene in a big way over the past two years, it’s still a mission to find a good sushi restaurant in Johannesburg’s inner-city.

There are just a few people who have decided to capitalise on the sushi craze and open their own Chinese or Japanese cuisine restaurants for city slickers who love some fish.

It’s no secret that City Buzz loves some good sushi, so we’re counting down the top places to get the delicious rolls of fishy goodness in the inner-city.

Pichi Pichi

Pichi Pichi, meaning ‘fresh’ with regards to fish or prawns, is the new and only restaurant in Braamfontein that offers sushi. Decked out with fishy décor and origami light features, the food isn’t the only thing that’s got people talking. Their traditional-style sushi is also vamped up with some original creations on the menu, so don’t miss out on the culinary explosion.

Town

Town is a concept food and bar space that has officially opened at Work Shop New Town at Newtown Junction, and functions as an event, exhibition installation and pop-up space as well as a gathering or meeting place for lovers of food, music, art and good times. The Dim Sum Bar has made its home at Town, for now, but who knows what to expect next month.

Huamin Chinese Takeaway and Sushi Bar

If you’re looking for a large variety of Asian cuisine that is reasonably priced to buy on the move, this is the place for you. Situated in Emmarentia, this Asian food spot offers it all from the traditional noodles and chop suey, to sushi and even some of the popular, new creations such as sweet bean curd, deep fried sushi and triangular shaped summer house sushi.
