5 people missing already in March in Ivory Park

MIDRAND - In the first two weeks of March, five people have already been reported as missing at Ivory Park Police Station.

In light of this, the police, together with the social crime prevention team, the missing persons officer and members of the youth desk distributed pamphlets for the missing persons awareness campaign in Tswelopele and surrounding areas to inform the community about reports of missing persons. Police officers gave the community advice and urged parents and guardians to ensure the safety of children and other adults who cannot look after themselves.

Ivory Park Police Station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “Five people were reported missing in March. Two children, along with an adult suffering from a mental illness have been found. Two other people have still not been found.”

Missing persons must be reported at Ivory Park Police Station as soon as possible, according to Sekgobela, who said there is no need to wait 24 hours.

Ivory Park police offered tips during the missing persons awareness campaign:

  •  Teach children their parents’ names, contact numbers, home address and emergency numbers.
  •  Make children aware that they have a right to say no when approached by strangers or faced with difficult situations.
  •  No child or adult must accept a lift from strangers.
  •  Never approach a vehicle unless you know the occupants, as criminals may pretend to need directions.
  •  Adults and young people must say no to strangers offering what seem to be great job opportunities or anyone who may approach you and make you feel uncomfortable with what they say or do.
