Pregnancy and parenting talk at Life Carstenhof Hospital

MIDRAND - Life Carstenhof Hospital hosted its annual pregnancy education workshop on 19 February to commemorate pregnancy education week.

Pregnant women who attended the workshop were informed on what to expect during each trimester up until childbirth and were made aware of when medical check-ups are needed during and after pregnancy and which immunisations are required once the baby is born.

One of the speakers at the workshop, gynaecologist Dr Uviwe Petse discussed the body changes a woman undergoes when pregnant, while paediatrician, Dr Rebecca Makate, discussed colic in babies.

Makate said, “It is important to ask the doctor what one can do to reduce colic. It is one of the things that happen to babies and it does not mean something is wrong with the baby.”

The group of women who attended the workshop were encouraged to attend antenatal care classes, even in their first trimester of pregnancy.
