Kitty and Puppy Haven ‘con artist’ arrested

HYDE PARK - A woman, who has reportedly been conning people by claiming to collect donations on behalf of Kitty and Puppy Haven, has been arrested.

According to the charity organisation, the woman was arrested at the Hyde Park Shopping Centre, after being spotted by a member of the public. “Our chairman Candice rushed over to the centre as we received another call to say she was walking on Jan Smuts Avenue. She spotted her and her boyfriend crossing over to Bompas Road and called CAP Security. She and CAP chased them onto Oxford Rd where they were eventually caught and arrested,” said Kitty and Puppy Haven in  a Facebook post.

The animal shelter previously told Midrand Reporter that the woman had allegedly told members of the public that she was collecting donations on behalf of the shelter. “She also seems to have forged a letterhead of some sort as people have stated that they saw the logo on the pages she is walking around with and, unfortunately, fell for the scam as a result,” said Bianca Olivier, administrator at the shelter.

Kitty and Puppy Haven has asked residents who believe they were scammed by this woman, to open a case at their nearest police station. “Please inbox us so we can give you her name and ID number,” reads the Facebook post.
