‘Scrapyard owners add to the problem of drug use’

MIDRAND - Ivory Park police; representatives from drug addiction centre, Elim Clinic; an anti-drug initiative, Thiba Nyaope; and other stakeholders hosted a drug awareness campaign at Lord Khanyile hall in Ivory Park Ext 2.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said scrapyard owners added to the problem of drug use as they paid for the scrap that drug users brought in, thereby enabling them to buy more drugs.

Sekgobela added, “Representatives from Elim Clinic spoke to people dealing with drug and alcohol issues and the director for Social Development Nonhlanhla Mthimkhulu encouraged parents to act whenever they realise that their children or their neighbours are involved in drugs and also take them to rehabilitation.”

Recovering drug addicts were also present to encourage those who are struggling with addiction and to give advice to the youth to choose a better life, one that is not affected by substance abuse.
