Quick reaction from police leads to arrest

MIDRAND - One of two men who were allegedly involved in a smash-and-grab incident was arrested by Midrand police after they allegedly smashed a window of a vehicle on New Road in Midrand, and stole two women's handbags from the car.

Midrand police spokesperson, Constable Matome Tlamela said Warrant Officer Rajan Pillay and his team of officers were conducting a sting operation at the New Road intersection at the time, in order to curb the high rate of smash-and-grabs there.

Tlamela said, “A 25-year-old suspect was arrested and another [suspect] escaped. The two women, who were passengers in the vehicle, said their bags were forcibly taken after the suspects smashed the left passenger window.”
