Woman shot in Midrand, police investigate

HALFWAY HOUSE - A woman was shot dead on 2 December at a shopping complex in Midrand.

Midrand police spokesperson, Constable Matome Tlamela said it is not known why the woman was shot, but two eyewitnesses alleged that two men entered a shop and asked to buy bus tickets.

Tlamela said, “It is alleged that the suspects were told that there are no tickets available and one of the suspects walked towards one of the offices and took out a firearm and shot the deceased.”

An officer on duty received information about the shooting and arrived on the scene where a paramedic confirmed that the 34-year-old victim had died.

Tlamela mentioned that there is little information on the case, but police are still investigating to find out why the woman was shot and whether or not she was a patron or worked at the shop. No arrests have been made yet.

Details: Midrand Police Station 011 347 1600.
