Suspects arrested and one shot, after trying to evade arrest at a roadblock (WARNING: Graphic images)

MIDRAND – A man was shot in the leg in Austin View by police when he and two accomplices allegedly tried to flee from arrest on 31 October at a roadblock.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson Constable Jacob Nhlongo explained that police stopped a white Toyota Camry with three suspects inside. When the car stopped, the suspects opened the doors and jumped out of the car and ran. “Police shot one suspect in the leg, and caught up with the other two and arrested them. A knife and a firearm with live ammunition were recovered from the vehicle,” said Nhlongo.

The suspects were detained at Rabie Ridge Police Station and charged. They will soon appear in court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and a dangerous weapon.
