Dube appeared briefly in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on 5 November on charges of cable theft and stolen property.

Yumna Sheik, spokesperson for City Power said the suspension will remain in force until the court proceedings are finalised.

Meanwhile Sicelo Xulu, City Power managing director said, “City Power has a responsibility to its stakeholders, customers and ratepayers to ensure that it operates in accordance to stringent corporate governance standards. As a law abiding corporate citizen, we respect the legal principle of being presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Xulu said the entity felt it prudent to suspend Dube from active employment to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.

Xulu assured ratepayers that it was still business as usual and the arrest will have no bearing whatsoever on service delivery. The case was postponed to 11 November this year and Dube will remain in custody until then.
