GP head of sport suspended

JOBURG - The head of Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Namhla Siqaza has been placed on precautionary suspension.

Provincial government spokesperson, Thabo Masebe, revealed that Gauteng Premier David Makhura placed Siqaza on precautionary suspension following allegations of improper conduct. Masebe could not divulge the nature of these allegations levelled against Siqaza and no further details were immediately available.

Masebe said the premier viewed the allegations made against Siqaza seriously and decided to institute a disciplinary enquiry to address them. Boy Ngobeni, head of the department of e-Government, will act as head of the sport department.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance noted the suspension of Siqaza, and Paul Willemburg, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Heritage said the DA had long held the view that the inept and improper behaviour of Siqaza had hamstrung the department in delivering efficient and effective services to the residents of Gauteng.

“We hope that this is Premier Makhura’s first step to deliver on his promises of taking decisive action against government officials who fail to deliver. The DA hopes that the suspension will not be dragged out and that swift action is taken should Siqaza be found guilty of any allegations against her.”
