Save the animals through art
JOBURG - The countdown has begun for the Animal Anti-Cruelty League’s (AACL) annual poster competition, a platform where children can express their love of animals and the importance of their well-being.
All primary schoolchildren can show their support of animal welfare by entering the competition by 31 October.
Children who wish to enter must create posters depicting the ways in which people show compassion and kindness to animals. The poster should also depict ways in which the animals are cared for and affect the lives of humans in positive ways. This poster must not just be a pretty picture, but a picture with a message. A slogan or title may also contribute towards making the message clear. Pupils can enter as many times as they wish.
The league would love any donation towards animal cruelty when entries are submitted. All money donated will be used in their work of caring for and protecting animals.
For their poster, children can use any medium to create their artwork, whether it be paint, pastel, ink or crayon. The poster must either be created on A2- or A3-sized paper.
Posters should be bold, original and fun. Every entry must have the child’s name, surname, age, school’s name and e-mail address, contact numbers for the child’s parents and school, entry category and grade clearly printed on the poster.
Posters will be exhibited on the league’s Facebook page. The winners will be announced on Facebook in November.

The categories for the competition include:
- Category 1: Grade 1 and 2: First Prize R2 000
- Category 2: Grade 3, 4 and 5: First Prize R2 000
- Category 3: Grade 6 and 7: First Prize R2 000
The school with the most entries will win a Canon laser multi-functional printer and one set of cartridges valued at R6 999.
