Sandton City shoppers will not be affected in October

SANDTON - As local residents and shoppers get ready for the EcoMobility Festival which will see partial changes in the Sandton Central Business District, Sandton City Shopping Centre said their shoppers will not be affected.

Communications manager for the centre, Kerry Phillips said, “Sandton City is where it all happens and October 2015 will be no different. The EcoMobility Festival will be taking place in Sandton from 1-31 October and while some streets will be partially closed, Sandton City, all the streets surrounding the shopping centre, and all the entrances and exits to our parking areas will not be affected. Sandton City will trade as normal during the EcoMobility Festival.”

The EcoMobility Festival is a City of Joburg initiative to encourage residents and commuters to Sandton to leave their cars at home and use environmentally friendly options like walking, cycling and public transport in a bid to ease congestion on the busy roads of South Africa’s business centre.

The festival will see limited road access on roads such as West Street, Gwen Lane, Maude Street and Stella Street. Sandton City’s rooftop parking on Level 8 will be one of the dedicated park-and-ride facilities during the EcoMobility Festival. Phillips said, “Commuters can access the rooftop parking from Sandton Drive or Rivonia Road, park their cars for the day and walk to their offices or catch a taxi or tuk-tuk to their destination. A flat rate of R10 per day will apply.”

To celebrate the EcoMobility Festival, there are gift cards up for grabs. To win, customers simply need to spend R500 or more at one shop, take their till slip to the information kiosk in Checkers court, fill out the entry form and hold thumbs. They could win a gift card valued at R10 000, R15 000 or a massive grand prize of R25 000.

Phillips concluded, “With more than 8 000 parking bays, parking won’t be a problem during the EcoMobility Festival, or customers can embrace the spirit of the festival and speed through to Sandton City on the Gautrain, it practically stops at our door.”
