Police take awareness campaign to the streets

IVORY PARK - Due to an increase in serious crimes in the past year, such as business robberies and hijackings, Ivory Park police spent time on 23 August distributing informative pamphlets to the community.

Areas that police took the campaign to included Ramaphosa Section (Ematseni) and Phola Park in Ivory Park Ext 2. Pamphlets with police emergency contact numbers and sector numbers were given to members of the community, while they were alerted to crimes in the area.

Community members were given whistles to blow when a crime is in progress so that people nearby can immediately notify police.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Neldah Sekgobela said, “We are doing the campaign to also sensitise the community to be vigilant to wall smashings and to blow the whistle on crime.”

Sekgobela said Ivory Park Sectors 1 and 4 are contributing to serious crimes. “Criminals smash walls of tuck shops owned by foreign nationals to gain entry,” she explained. The criminals then steal cash and groceries.
