Life 4 U foundation leads the pack in community work

IVORY PARK - Ivory Park-based youth foundation Life 4 U put together an event for the elderly and widowed at the Ivory Park Stadium on 18 July.

“The aim of the event was to give groceries to those that have no breadwinners within the household,” said Simon Molekwa, the foundation’s project manager.

“We invited Pastor Pearl Osa to the event, because she is well equipped to address such people. We wanted them to leave with something tangible such as food as well as something for their spirits.”

Osa said her talk addressed specifically the widowed and forgotten. “I wanted them to know that they are not forgotten, they are mothers. As nurturers, Ivory Park still needs them.”

She also said the name of Ivory Park was significant to its growth. “There is meaning in a name. Ivory is a well-sought after [means of wealth]. It is not right that a township in the north of Johannesburg has no wealth of its own.” She commended the youth of the township for taking the initiative and uplifting their community.

Rifus Molele, owner of Cairo Tavern in the township, was also inspired by work of the youth. “It is important for all of us to share what we have in order to see that this community grows,” said Molele. He provided transport for the elderly that lived far from the stadium and had no grandchildren to help them take the groceries home.

Miriam Phasha, a widow, was grateful for her gift. “Since my husband passed away, it has been tough, I am so glad that I can tell my children tonight that we will be having rice.” Phasha also said she will encourage her children to join the Life 4 U foundation. “These are young people who have decided to do something about the state of our community,” she said.
