Jozi’s jumping for joy at Bounce
JOBURG – Jozi has a definite spring in its step thanks to the free-jumping revolution that is Bounce Inc.
Only three weeks since opening its doors, this spot has already seen more than 30 000 jumpers alone, and has been named one of the top 10 destinations in the city.
The massive venue has everything you’ve ever dreamed of … on trampolines. Think a slackline (tightrope) arena, slam-dunk spots, two dodgeball courts, a big bag arena that’s perfect for perfecting back-flips, and even a high performance area for those who are wickedly good at tricks. There are about 90 trampolines packed into this spot.
Shaun Strydom, principal owner and director of Bounce Sub-Saharan South Africa said, “Bounce is a totally unique concept, it’s something that South Africa has never seen before, never mind Africa. It’s something that’s totally inclusive for everybody and just a completely unique family experience.”
Not only that, but Bounce is also the first place to have a complete online booking system. If you just walked in and wanted to bounce, you’d end up waiting – it’s always that busy. “It’s been a bit of a culture shock for South Africans because they’re not used to booking in advance and booking online,” administrative supervisor, PJ van Rooyan said.
“Our whole thing is about saving time.”
Bounce is the first of its kind in South Africa, and Jozi is the home of the only branch – at the moment. Strydom said they were planning to bring a number of venues to the country, but it was a very elite offering. “We’re very selective on where we go and what we do, and where the venues are, and make sure that we can deliver the customer experience that has made Bounce so unique around the world.”
He claims his inspiration for the venue was inspired by a friend who started the brand in Dubai.
Visitors from across the country are flocking to this place to try it out. Van Rooyan claimed that they have skateboarders and Olympians, gymnasts and acrobats that come in and do a bit of training, as well as grannies and grandpas. Bounce is the entertainment venue for everyone, no matter age or capability.
Noami Kluge, a visiting mum from Pretoria said, “I think it’s a great idea and I’m so happy that the kids can get exercise, because it’s difficult to get the kids outside in today’s world. And they enjoy it, they are over the moon about this place. I just wish there was one in Pretoria.”
