Jazz lovers welcome the return of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz

SANDTON - The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival will take place from 24 to 26 September at the Sandton Convention Centre.

The festival, which last year moved to the Sandton Convention Centre to accommodate its continued growth, attracts over 20 000 jazz lovers from across the globe who are drawn by line-ups of South African, African and international jazz musicians.

Standard Bank and T-Musicman recently hosted an official media launch of the festival at the Standard Bank Auditorium in Rosebank, co-ordinated by TV and radio personality Masechaba Lekalake.

Standard Bank announced its renewed commitment to jazz by signing a three-year sponsorship agreement with Joy of Jazz, extending its 16-year relationship.

Chris Vondo from the City of Joburg said, “Joburg uses this platform to bring jazz artists from across borders to South Africa.”

He added that the City is mindful of events of this nature because they have the potential to grow the economy of the City.

A video message from the Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa was streamed at the launch and he said the jazz festival is not only a business enterprise, but an example of nation building.

“We are grooving and moving South Africa forward,” he added.

Peter Tladi, chief executive officer of T-musicman said, “The show continues to grow every year.”

T-musicman is the South African music and concert promotion company that created the jazz festival.

“It was through jazz legend Hugh Masekela that Joy of Jazz was created by us,” he added.

Masekela will be joined by a number of other jazz artists at the festival this year. Some of the artists set to perform in September are Yellow Jackets, Omar Sosa, Jimmy Dludlu, Wanda Baloyi, Peabo Bryson, Letta Mbulu, Dee Alexander, Sibongile Khumalo and more.
