School Safety Campaign keeps pupils in the know

IVORY PARK - Police, Outsurance Traffic Freeflow members, Johannesburg Metropolitan Department, the Department of Community Safety, and Toros Sweets took the school safety campaign to Ivory Park Primary School.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said, “We spoke to pupils at Ivory Park Primary School about road safety, an event organised together with Traffic Freeflow. I encouraged pupils to take better care of themselves so that they don’t end up being reported as missing.”

Sekgobela said a representative from Traffic Freeflow, Motshidisi Mlondobozi, taught the pupils on the traffic members’ responsibilities and dress code as well as mobile teams using the bikes to control the traffic.

“Reservist Constable Tebogo Maaga taught children about human trafficking, explaining how children end up working as slaves for somebody else,” said Sekgobela.

Metro police officer Andrew Mokgoera taught the pupils about the importance of scholar patrol as well as traffic lights. Mokgoera told the pupils, “You must know about the zebra crossing, a road sign you as pupils use to assist each other to cross the road in the mornings and after school hours. Safety is key.”
