Dogs off the lead

I feel very strongly about dogs being off leads.

The reason being that the owners of these dogs do not see that their dogs are liable of picking a fight with other dogs.

The dogs make eye contact with one another. There is nothing to stop them from fighting with one another.

If a dog is on lead, one has all the control of the dog. It can be a short lead or a long retractable lead. A person has control of their dog when it is on a lead.

I am petrified to take my dogs to the park for fear that they might be mauled by dogs off a lead. I do not even take my dogs for a walk for fear of dogs behind walls and gates.

This has happened to me twice. Once when my husband and I were walking down 9th Street in Sydenham. This big dog came bounding towards us to attack my dogs. The man was busy washing his car and never took any notice of his dog out of his gate. Thank heavens my husband was with me and he grabbed one of the dogs and I grabbed the other. My husband kicked out at the dog and the dog ran back into his driveway.

The other time, I was walking my dogs in a street in Sydenham when the driveway gate opened and two big dogs came bounding out to attack my dogs. The man called his dogs back and my dogs and myself were not hurt at all. Heaven only knows what would have happened to either me or my dogs had the man not called his dogs back into the driveway.

I will not be taking my dogs to either the parks or for a walk until there is a law that dogs must be on leads at all times.

The dogs overseas are not allowed to be left free running without their leads, and the people adhere to the laws or they are fined.
