Victim killed after resisting hijackers

MIDRAND - Two suspects shot and killed a man who was driving a company vehicle in Kaalfontein Ext 4 during a hijacking.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said the victim drove to Kaalfontein on 20 March, and while there, two suspects approached him and demanded his car keys.

“The victim fought the suspects and one of the suspects took out a firearm and shot the victim… and drove off in his vehicle. The victim died while being taken to paramedics in Ivory Park,” said Sekgobela.

The victim’s vehicle was later recovered in Ivory Park Ext 2. Police are looking for any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects who are still on the run.

Sekgobela said motorists must keep the following in mind during a hijacking:

  • The aim is to survive the crime. Accept that you are going to lose a valuable possession, your vehicle.
  • Do not lose your cool, threaten or challenge the hijacker.
  • Do exactly what the hijacker is instructing you to do, surrender your vehicle and move away.
  • Don’t reach for your purse or valuables. This may threaten the hijackers and you may get hurt. Leave everything in the vehicle. Remember, the hijackers might be more nervous than you, but you have more to lose.

Details: Ivory Park police Station 011 990 9600.
