A winning partnership

MIDRAND - Not only has the Midrand Knights Youth Academy and Midrand Cricket Club Youths merged to form the Midrand Youth Academy, but the union has proved to be a winning idea, as their recent victorious weekend has proved.

They played their second match of the season against Joburg Cricket Club on their home ground and won by six wickets, with 10 balls to spare.

Joburg CC elected to bat first, and posted a formidable 151 runs for eight wickets, in 25 overs. The stars with the ball in hand were Keashav Lutchman who took three wickets for eight runs in four overs and Hein Van Dyk with two wickets at the cost of 16 runs in four overs.

The Youth Academy started off pretty well in pursuit of the very daunting target.

Openers Rilesh Naidoo and Ajay Krishnamurti put a nice open stand of 32 runs in eight overs.

Naidoo was dismissed for an aggressive 18, while Krishnamurti played the anchor role.

Keashav Lutchman joined Ajay Krishnamurti in the middle, and the two put on a vital 60 run partnership with the former scoring a quick 38.

They lost a few quick wickets and went from 92 runs with one wicket loss to 95 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Jerod Meiring with 43 runs not out and captain Yadav Singh with 20 runs not out, played with great maturity. They put on a 60-run partnership, winning the match in 24 overs.
