R1-million worth of Johnny Walker stolen

MIDRAND - A group of about 10 suspects stole R1-million worth of Johnny Walker Black Label whiskey from a business on 16th Road in Midrand at around 1.30pm on 23 February.

Midrand police spokesperson Constable Matome Tlamela said the company’s driver was forced to assist robbers as they robbed his workplace. Tlamela said the man was at work when a group of about 10 men arrived, some of them were armed.

She said the worker alleged that the suspects held him and other staff members hostage and ordered him to drive the company’s forklift and load four pallets of the expensive booze into one of the robbers’ trucks.

Tlamela said two more trucks arrived at the business and a further three pallets were loaded into one truck and half a pallet into the other. The man said all the trucks were white.

When the suspects drove out of the business, they left the workers tied up with cable ties.

Tlamela said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
