Window washers claim to act as police informants
JOBURG - Window washers have claimed to be informants for the police.
This according to reports that state that window washers believe they should not be labelled as criminals. However, a woman and her friend have said they were intimidated by window washers at an intersection in Morningside recently. “They basically put so much foam so that I couldn’t see and they hit my car and started swearing at us.”
Some window washers have come forward and said they do not understand why authorities want to remove them, as they act as informal neighbourhood overseers and have claimed that they work with the police to inform them of criminals.
This following reports that authorities will crack down on beggars, windscreen washers, pamphlet distributors and street vendors at intersections and traffic lights. One of the window washers said life is not easy for a window washer because they work hard to support their families and not crime.
A window washer can apparently make up to R100 a day at an intersection.
“It’s just zama zama nje to get some food, I’m not here to commit any crime,” said the window washer.
