Domestic worker survives armed robbery

VORNA VALLEY - A house robbery took place recently on Chris Barnard Street in Vorna Valley.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said the victim was in the yard taking out the trash on 12 February at about 9.30am. Two men approached her and one of them pointed a firearm at her and ordered her to open the gate.

As she feared for her life, she did as she was told. They followed her into her employer’s home. Once inside, one of the men had a phone call with an unknown person and told them it was safe to drop off another accomplice at the house.

The accomplice was dropped off by a white bakkie and he had a blow torch with him.

They cut open the safes and took her boss’ belongings. In her statement to the Midrand police, the woman said she told the men that she did not know the value of the things inside the safe, nor did she know exactly what was inside.

The men took her two cellphones, tied her hands and feet with shoelaces and made her lie face down in the bedroom. No injuries were reported. The men have yet to be caught.
