Very little tears were shed on the day and the little six year olds took their first steps at school with oversized school bags and uniforms quite bravely.
Rietjie Pienaar and Renet van der Merwe were two of the teachers at Christ Church Preparatory to welcome the new pupils.
After asking what makes her new pupils happy, Pienaar received varied responses with one little trooper saying, “Being at school makes me happy.”
It seemed the parents were more anxious about the experience than the children were.
One parent Lindsay Grubb said, “I just want her to make friends, learn to love one another, share and appreciate each other’s differences.”
