Tip-off leads to suspected car thief’s arrest

IVORY PARK - A man (30) was arrested on 6 January on the corner of September and Masakhane streets in Ivory Park Extension 2.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said police officers from the Gauteng provincial police received a tip-off about suspicious activity at a Tata truck which had been parked on the street.

She said, “Police went to the scene to investigate the truck and they found that the vehicle had been linked to a robbery case in Secunda at the beginning of January.”

Unaware that police were onto him, the suspect arrived at the scene driving a white Ford Laser and parked next to the truck. He was arrested while getting into the truck.

“Police also found that the Ford Laser had been reported stolen in Bronkhorstspruit. A 9mm pistol, with the number filed off, was also confiscated from the suspect,” said Sekgobela.
