South African senior tour makes rounds in Midrand
MIDRAND - The 2014 SA Senior Open Championship took place at Blue Valley Golf and Country Club in Midrand.
The championship was from 25 to 27 November and was hosted in partnership with the Midrand branch of Landrover Jaguar.
The winner on a total of 8 under par for 54 holes was Chris Williams. Williams nearly did not make the tournament as he flew in from Sydney on the Monday evening prior to the event without his golf clubs.
He arrived the next morning to play using his brother’s clubs. He calmly fired a cool 69 points with them. After he had located his own clubs, he returned to finish the tournament in great style with a total of 208 (-8).
The star-studded field comprised of some of the real “legends” of this great game. Names such as Simon Hobday, Bobby Lincoln, John Bland, John Mashego, Hendrik Buhrmann and Rocky Tlhabanyane, were among the golfers who attended.
