Ivory Park roads get a makeover

IVORY PARK - Roads in Ivory Park will be fixed through the Ivory Park gravel roads improvement project.

The city of Johannesburg has, through Johannesburg Roads Agency, made R47.7million available for the upgrading of 8.3kilometres of roads, from gravel to asphalt surface, in the current financial year.

According to Johannesburg member of the mayoral committee for Environment and Infrastructure councillor Matshidiso Mfikoe, the upgrading of social infrastructre in Ivory Park will transform the community. Mfikoe said, “Over the next three years, the City will tar roads and streets in Ivory Park for a total amount of R229 million.

The councillor added that in the 2013-2014 financial year, roads in Ivory Park, namely Shweshwe, Liberation Circle, Xolela, Moqoboya, MP Khumalo roads and Technology Crescent were upgraded.

“The gravel streets that will receive a major upgrade in the current financial year are Boshoff, Dimbaza, Eighteenth July, Emalahleni, Hlanganani and Kabelo streets. The upgrade will include resurfacing, paving, kerbing, lighting and landscaping.”

The Ivory Park gravel roads upgrades project forms part of the city-wide gravel roads upgrades programme which will see the city spending more than R1.3billion to improve roads during the medium-term expenditure framework period.

Other areas benefiting from the upgrades project are Braamfischerville, Orange farm, Thulani, Lawley, Drieziek, Protea South and Tshepisong.
