Parents can teach Mathematics

MIDRAND - How does a concerned parent handle the situation of inadequate mathematics education for their children? The solution comes easily to Paul Sondergaard.

Sondergaard has delivered a number of copies of his book through The One Book One Learner Project, called My Maths Buddy dictionary in numerous under-resourced schools in Tembisa.

With his experience in the delivery of more than 100 successful workshops in bringing solutions in the understanding of mathematics and thus raising the ability of the individual to do the subject, he has now authored the first ever Maths Study Guide for parents, called Five Effective Ways to Help your Child with Maths.

Phillippa Roborg-Sondergaard, who is the public relations officer of the project, said teachers are saying that they can see a change in those children who are using the My Maths Buddy dictionary.

” In one school, there has been a raise of between four percent and 15 percent for these learners,” she said.

“A learner from Soweto, who used the book for his Grade 12 year, changed his results from an average of 45 percent to 88 percent at the end of the year and is now in his second year of studying to be an engineer,” she said.

“Paul Sondergaard has now come to the rescue of concerned parents who want to help their children, but do not know how,” said Roborg-Sondergaard.

“This book can help any parent increase their confidence in helping their kids with maths simply because it helps the parent understand the subject, rather than finding themselves lost in the content of the curriculum,” said the author.
