Beware of festive season crimes

IVORY PARK - Certain crimes take the limelight during the festive season.

Ivory Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Neldah Sekgobela said as much as the festive season brings good times, criminals are on high alert for easy opportunities to commit crime. She said, “Over the festive season, women and children often fall prey to rape, and burglaries increase as most people will be away.”

Sekgobela advised that women should avoid going to parties at night and should not make their way home escorted by someone they do not know well. She stated that anyone who will be going away this festive season must make sure that their homes are locked and windows are closed, as crimes tend to happen during that time.

“Children are very vulnerable, so make sure you know where your children are at all times. During the festive season some adults forget to be vigilant when watching their children,” she said.
