Chiefs hope to maintain winning streak

JOBURG - Log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs are keen to continue their good run in the league when they welcome defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns to the FNB stadium on 22 November.

Log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs are keen to continue their good run in the league when they welcome defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns to the FNB stadium on 22 November.

The fixture between the two rivals will be the pick of the weekend Absa premiership fixtures following the Fifa international hiatus. “We are excited and prepared to welcome the Brazillians at home this Saturday,” said Chiefs’ marketing director, Jessica Motaung.

Amakhosi will be looking to hit the ground running in the hope of staying ahead of the chasing pack, but they will be facing a formidable opponent in the Brazilians and the fixture has all the ingredients of a humdinger.

The reigning league champions, Sundowns, are occupying the fifth spot with 16 points from a possible 30 points while Chiefs on the other hand have amassed 28 points from a possible 30 and Amakhosi have gone out of their way to galvanise support in the hope of creating a fortress and an intimidating the Brazillians, Chiefs and their sponsor, Vodacom embarked on roadshows in Thembisa.

Chiefs’ coach Stuart Baxter said preparations were going well in the camp and the medical team has reported a clean bill of health for all, with the exception of Kgotso Moleko who will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

Amakhosi mentor said it was also difficult to quickly regroup when you have had a break in the calendar and more so when five of your players were on national duty for Bafana Bafana. “I will have to assess the returning players before declaring a clean bill of health,” Baxter said.

Bafana’s sudden burst of form in recent matches has sent a wave of positive optimism through the country and Baxter hopes the players can carry that experience into their league endeavours as the focus shifts to local affairs. “We are looking forward to an excellent match, highlighted by skillful and exciting football,” concluded Motaung.
