Potholes resurface with heavy rains

NOORDWYK - A Noordwyk resident Thomas Khuzwayo said due to the recent rains, it is interesting how quickly the potholes have resurfaced on many roads.

He asked, “When will Johannesburg Roads Agency finally fix all the potholes once and for all? We cannot complain of one thing for years and keep paying taxes for it. Where is the money going?”

He pointed out that there is a pothole at the traffic lights on Lever and George roads, that the agency has tried to fix many times, and it quickly washes away. The pothole was recently fixed, but Khuzwayo thinks it will soon emerge again. He stated that it has become ‘normal’ for residents to see an orange cone next to this pothole. “Why is it so challenging that the pothole is not properly fixed the first time? I bet we will still have this pothole on Lever Road even in next year. We might as well befriend it.”

Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson explained that the pothole had not been fixed due to a water pipe that was being fixed. “A burst pipe was reported to Joburg Water and it has now been fixed. The roads agency will then ensure reinstatement of the concrete channel and surface that area where the pothole was, in two weeks.”
