Armed robber gets eight years

MIDRAND - Midrand Police Station's management congratulated Detective Aubrey Makgoshing on his investigation of an armed robbery case.

His detective work led to the conviction of a man to eight years in prison after he was arrested during an armed robbery which took place on 28 March at 8.45pm at a business in Halfway House.

The man was convicted in the Alexander Magistrate’s Court.

The robber jumped over the wall of the business and pointed a firearm at a patrolling security guard. He threatened to shoot the guard if he called for help. He then tied up the victim, bound his legs with a belt and tied his arms together with shoelaces.

The man kept threatening to shoot the security guard. He stole a cellphone and R250 cash.

Another security guard called Midrand police who then arrested the suspect.
