Makeba Girls Centre celebrates Youth month

MIDRAND - Makeba Girls Centre held a variety of activities to celebrate Youth Month.

The Centre invited Kaalfontein High School, Space Age Combined School, Eqinisweni High School, Tsoseleso High School and Kyalami Independent School to a day of soccer, modelling, drama, dancing and netball.

Maud Hlophe from the Centre said the events of the day were planned to celebrate young people. “We wanted to do this to celebrate Makeba girls and other young people from surrounding schools.”

Hlophe showed Midrand Reporter some of the clothing items and jewellery that the girls were selling.

Paul Mubai and Kqahliso Mara, pupils from Kaalfontein High School, entertained the youth with a stand-up comedy piece. Makeba girls took part in a dance and modelling competition.

Hlophe said the Centre has a wish list which residents can refer to when donating to the Centre.

The list includes:

  •  Fixing sinks and cupboards in the girls’ dormitories
  •  A study space or library
  •  Toiletries
  •  Staff salaries
  •  School uniforms
  •  New and used printers.
