Bumper bash hijackings continue

MIDRAND - Police are investigating the ongoing trend of hijackers bumping a vehicle from behind and when the victim gets out of the car to check the damage, they are hijacked.

This was first reported in Beware of bumper bashing, week ending 16 May.

Midrand police communications officer ,Constable Matome Tlamela said the community was advised not to stop if they did not feel safe, but rather proceed to the nearest police station.

A Midrand Reporter BBM user did just that when her car was gently bumped while stationary on the New Road off-ramp. The driver who nudged her car was wearing a hood over his head.

As she proceeded to the police station, the man turned right on Lever Road and smiled as he drove past her. Tlamela said incidents in which people’s cars were bumper-bashed and then hijacked were ongoing and police were investigating.

Details: Midrand police, 011 347 6000.
