Father who shot his son appears in court

MIDRAND - A man who allegedly accidentally shot his son at a gun expo in Midrand has appeared in court on firearm negligence charges.

Midrand Police spokesperson Matome Tlamela said, “The father appeared in Alexander Magistrate’s Court on 30 April. He is facing charges of attempted murder and negligent handling of a firearm.”

The father and his two sons were in a toilet cubicle at Gallagher Convention Centre when the gun allegedly accidentally went off. The seven-year-old boy is still in ICU at Life Carstenhof Clinic in Midrand. His condition is still unconfirmed due to doctor-patient confidentiality but Midrand Police said, “The boy is recovering in ICU.”
