The Oscar Trial: Five things you need to know about Day 23

JOBURG - Prosecutor Gerrie Nel concluded his cross-examination of Oscar Pistorius after five days of questioning.

  •  Nel had Pistorius re-enact hitting the bathroom door with a cricket bat and questioned Pistious on Steenkamp’s position when he first saw her in the cubicle.
  •  Pistorius said he did not scream when he first saw her in the cubicle saying, he did not understand the point of screaming in that moment because he “was overcome with sadness.”
  •  Once again Nel accused Pistorius of ‘tailoring’ his evidence to suit his story. Nel repeatedly questioned Pistorius about details that occurred after the shooting such as what he did with the gun immediately afterward and who connected his cellphone to a charger in the kitchen.
  •  When Nel concluded his question Pistorius’ lawyer, Barry Roux, asked him follow-up questions. He asked his client what he meant when he said the shooting was an accident. “I mean the situation, and the situation as a whole, wasn’t meant to be,” said Pistorius.
  •  Roger Dixon, the next witness in the stand, is a forensic specialist. He is currently being questioned by Barry Roux. He was testifying about shoe prints visible in the photos of the toilet when court adjourned.
