Daylight robberies

MIDRAND - Police say that most residential burglaries are committed during the day.

According to police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela, at about 6.50am on 10 March, a resident left his Cypress Street home in Noordwyk for work.

“No one was at the house and at about 11:30am the complainant received a phone call from the security company informing him that the alarm had been activated,” Tlamela said.

“The complainant drove straight to his house, and upon arrival he noticed that the padlock on the gate was broken and his kitchen door had been forced open.

“Upon further investigation the homeowner noticed that his TV, worth around R12 000 had been stolen. The suspects are unknown.”

Another home burglary took place on Edgar Avenue in Noordwyk on 10 March when unknown suspects stole property worth about R8 000.

“According to the complainant, he left his house for work at 6.20am, and when he came home after work he noticed that his bedroom window was open and the curtain was hanging outside,” said Tlamela.

“The complainant went into the house to check what had happened and noticed that all the liquor from his bar, a play station and games were stolen. The suspects are unknown.”

Midrand police are investigating both cases and hope to bring the suspects to book.

A business on Richards Drive was also robbed during the day on 11 March at 12.50pm.

“The complainant was on duty when two men wearing uniforms and carrying bags entered the reception,” said Tlamela.

“The suspects said that they were there to deliver parcels. One of the suspects then asked the complainant who else was in the office.”

The armed men then fetched the security officer, the cleaner and the other employee and tied them up with cable ties. They stole items from the safe, as well as jewellery, cash and a laptop.

She said the suspects assaulted the victims during the robbery.

“There were four suspects involved, they were driving a black Range Rover and a green Quantum. The suspects were armed with two firearms,” said Tlamela.

No arrests have been made and police are still investigating the case. They hope to bring the suspects to book soon.

They call on the public with any information to inform the police.
