AS A Vorna Valley resident since 1980 I have seen the entire area develop.
I must be the only Midrand resident who does not complain about load shedding or power outages because I have taken the necessary steps to ensure that I will always have lots of electricity at all times.
I installed a medium size [solar] PV [Photovoltaic] system about 21 years ago and it’s been running ever since. Best investment I have ever made.
I am sending out my newsletters to over a hundred interested homeowners, all who are very keen on going the same route but have little information how to go about it.
I am about to launch a website where I will continue to educate. This is not a commercial site, purely to spread the word.
I run the entire home, two aircons, pool, geyser, and stove; I also run an office with nine staff members and lots of computers.The system requires very little maintenance, just cleaning the panels in winter (due to dust) and topping up the batteries.
Things are not going to improve. Electricity costs will escalate every year as it is a major source of income for the municipality. My cost will be very little for the next 30 years.
