Drug dealers cuffed

MIDRAND - Police arrested three drug dealers on two separate occasions on 10 March.

Two suspects were arrested for dealing drugs on Van Heerden Street in Halfway Gardens.

Midrand police operational commander Captain Lionel Chetty was on duty patrolling with his group in the area.

Midrand police communications officer Constable Matome Tlamela said, “They stopped and searched a man (19) on Van Heerden Street and found a packet of dagga in his possession. The man was immediately arrested but during the arrest, the suspect alleged that he left his two bags at the security guards house.”

The police took him to the security guards’ house in order to get the bags and the police searched the bags and found more dagga in one of the bags.

Tlamela said the suspect reported to the police that the dagga belonged to his friend and he was selling it at a complex in Noordwyk.

The police visited the complex and arrested the second suspect (16).

“The street value of the dagga recovered from the suspect can be estimated to R500,” said Tlamela.

In a separate case, Midrand police nabbed a drug dealer (47) after receiving information that he was dealing on the corner of 8th Street and Protea Road in Midrand on 10 March.

Tlamela said, “Police received information while patrolling around the area regarding a vehicle that is selling drugs around the area. The

police followed the information and spotted the vehicle that fitted the description at corner of 8th and Protea in Midrand.

“Police stopped and searched the vehicle and found 20 packets of dagga, three small plastic bags of rock and R90 cash was seized from the complainant,” she said.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was immediately arrested for dealing in drugs.
