‘Fraudster’ victims still seek justice

MIDRAND - The victims of a former Midrand resident accused of multiple fraud cases are still awaiting justice, but, as all of their cases are grouped together, they anticipate a favourable outcome.

The man is accused of defrauding people in Midrand and Mpumalanga, and while he has been arrested and released on bail numerous times, his multiple court appearances have received many postponements. The man has not pleaded in any of the cases.

As Midrand and Nelspruit cases fall within the South and North High Courts respectively, the cases from the respective areas were heard separately in different courts last year. However, one of the man’s victims, Michelle Watson, said a decision was taken in January to group the Midrand and Nelspruit cases together, which would be heard in Alexandra Magistrate’s Court. However, the cases against the man in Hazyview are still heard separately at the moment.

Watson said, “This time I believe it will work in our favour as they are joining all the cases from Nelspruit and Midrand together to be heard by one judge only.”

The man’s latest court appearance for the Midrand fraud cases was on 30 January in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, but he received yet another postponement and a new court date, set for 12 March.

Watson urged the victims to make a stand and show their support by attending the court hearing.
