Racer top of game in Germany

MIDRAND - Jordan Pepper, the youngest driver in the German ADAC Volkswagen Scirocco-R Cup, scored the most important win of his career when he won round six of the popular championship at the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit.

Midrand resident, Pepper said, “That was the longest race I have ever led. I kept calm and even had a few ‘push to pass’ uses left.”

The 17-year-old started the race from pole position and judged the start to perfection. He led into the first corner and successfully defended a couple of challenges on a slippery track to control the race from then onwards.
Light drizzle made conditions tricky, but Pepper was in charge and reeled off the 14-laps without putting a foot wrong to cross the line a few car lengths

clear of the field. The result puts Pepper back into the lead of the Junior Cup championship and he has leapfrogged up to second behind fellow South African Kelvin van der Linde in the overall standings.

“It was great having my mom here, she was in Welkom when my sister Tasmin won the Engen Volkswagen Cup race a few weeks ago. She’s good luck. I also want to say a special thank you to Gavin Vareges of Blue Label Telecoms, PG Glass and everyone else who made it possible,” Pepper said.

Pepper was awarded a seat in the popular Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup after finishing third in the Engen Volkswagen Cup where he was top rookie.

Pepper’s father, Iain who won the Class T Production Car title a few years ago said, “He kept his head and worked on improving throughout the day which I was happy with. Jordan says he has looked at his data and feels he has room to improve. He is happy with his performance and showed a lot of maturity in the way he handled the day’s three sessions.”
