Philisande Ngum bursary fund established

The Midrand Graduate Institute has started a bursary fund to honour psychology student, Philasande Ngum, who was found murdered in a veld in President Park on 22 May this year.

Ngum was a second year psychology student at the Midrand Graduate Institute.

Dr Tom Brown, principle and managing director of the Midrand Graduate Institute, announced the establishment of the Philasande Ngum Scholarship Fund on 7 June. Starting in 2014, one student studying towards a psychology degree at the Midrand Graduate Institute will be selected annually to benefit from the fund.

Dean of students and institutional affairs, Derrick Zitha said, “It is our hope that this will, in a small way, serve to preserve the legacy of our Philasande by allowing less privileged students to study towards the same dream. Details of the application process will be available upon request from the Office of the Registrar at Midrand Graduate Institute. The students and staff would like to thank the community of Glen Austin for their support during this trying time, and for initiating independent efforts to ensure the safety of the residents of this area.”
