Snare clean up day in Kyalami

KYALAMI - The Kyalami community will take to the open fields once more to dismantle animal snares.

Last year, hunting in the Greater Kyalami Conservancy was at a high with snares dotted around the vacant land and in fences. It reached a high when people were hunting the black-backed jackal and beating them with sticks.

In July last year, Mandy Collins of the conservancy organised a snare clean-up day in honour of Nelson Mandela’s birthday. This year, Collins is dedicating the clean-up to the late Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy who was committed to preventing animal snaring and poaching in the conservancy. Reddy was also awarded a Greater Kyalami Conservancy Green Hero Award last year for his efforts.

Anyone is welcome to join the clean up which will see members of the Greater Kyalami Conservancy and Midrand Crime Sector 4 Forum lend their help.

The clean-up will start at the SA Lipizzaner Hall at 8am on 24 August.
